De smoes

De smoes (The excuse) is part of the serie Boeken boeien (Books are captivating). Every book contains about 80 words that vmbo-students should master. This makes the serie very useful if you are learning Dutch as a second language as well! 

20 books with different themes will appear: biology, mathematics, physics, economics, and the society. The list of words that need to be known is developed by the ITTA (institute for language research and language education for foreigners).

De Smoes (The excuse) is about the Surinamese Kyra who lives and works in the Netherlands for an old man, Mr. Promes. Mr. Promes asks Kyra to help him to solve an old family mystery and buys her a ticket to Suriname. Kyra agrees with the plan, but is that a wise decision?

She works for Mr. Promess an old man with a family mystery. Mr. Promes asks Kyra to help him to solve his mystery and buys her a ticket to Suriname. Kyra would love to see her family in Suriname again, but is it wise to consent with the plan of Mr Promes? What should she do?
