This book is the first in a series of five textbooks for non-native speakers. The books deal with taboo or uncomfortable topics. These topics are often barely addressed, if at all, in NT2 education. This constitutes a gap and that is why these textbooks were written.
In this series of books on uncomfortable topics, real people with real stories and experiences speak and authentic (spoken) language is generally used. The situations that appear in the book will be recognisable to many people.
The title Ander Onderwerp means that this series is about different subjects than you are likely to encounter in your NT2 lessons or books. Ander Onderwerp is also what people often say when they are afraid or unwilling to talk about something, because the subject is too uncomfortable or surrounded by a sense of shame.
This first part covers taboos in general and there is a section that deals with swearing and swearing. The next section covers the topics of love and relationships. The sections that follow deal with sexuality, addiction, mental illness and death. In the fifth part, vocabulary and idiom from the previous four books return but with new texts and assignments.
This is a textbook that teachers can use alongside other methods, both in the classroom and at home. For lesson suggestions, find information on the publisher's page.
