In Germany, the Netherlands is in the spotlight. Many want to learn the Dutch language and interest in Dutch culture is high. More and more German students are also studying in the Netherlands. Even though the languages of the neighbouring countries are similar, a solid basic knowledge is important for later language proficiency. The communicative beginner's method In de startblokken provides students with suitable study material for a quick start.

In de startblokken contains 15 chapters with dialogues on everyday situations. In addition, vocabulary lists, grammar, speaking and writing assignments are offered, and there is a focus on Dutch culture and reflection. Striking differences in grammar and word choice between Dutch and German are explicitly addressed. Furthermore, maximum use is made of the similarities with German. This allows course members to reach level A2 of the European Framework of Reference in a short time.

This edition is accompanied by a website with additional practice materials: interactive assignments, listening texts, songs, pronunciation videos, reading texts and vocabulary lists. The website also includes inserts with more explanations on Dutch grammar and spelling. Extensive teacher materials are also available via the website.

The website has been expanded with exercises, gap texts, intensive listening texts, songs and videos. 

Also new are the pronunciation videos on the website. In de startblokken is a beginner's Dutch method for German-speaking students.
