At KlasNL, language acts are the starting point. Students work with text types such as emails, texts, phone calls and registration forms. They learn to use these text types to put forward their own message. There is a lot of attention for repetition and participation.
KlasNL consists of course books, word trainers and a student website.
The lessons are structured using the ABCD model. There is a lot of focus on repetition, reading and writing for pleasure, mastery of study skills and hands-on learning. The latter occurs both in class and outside, in the form of assignments that encourage students to apply what they have learned in everyday life. In this way, the course is also in line with the new integration policy.
The method KlasNL:
In addition to the course books, there are word trainers with vocabulary exercises and word lists that cusists can use to work on their productive vocabulary knowledge. There are two types of word lists in the word trainers: alphabetical lists for each lesson and a list that lists the words from all lessons in alphabetical order. It also contains productive vocabulary exercises that they can do independently outside of class. In KlasNL to A1 and A2, separate word trainers are available. In KlasNL to B1, the word trainer is integrated into the course book.
With KlasNL, every lesson focuses on all skills and sub-skills (vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation, extracurricular assignments, reading comprehension, watching, listening, a language chart and songs. This way, as a teacher, you don't have to look for extra material when preparing your lessons. How convenient!
A general teacher's guide, a teacher's guide per lesson, copy sheets and tests are available for teachers.
Meet the podcast KlasNL. This podcast is intended for NT2 teachers and other professionals who would like to know more about the NT2 learning curve.
Together with the authors Martijn Baalman, Anja Valk, Vita Olijhoek and Fouke Jansen we have recorded four short episodes in which we discuss the principles of the curriculum. During the episodes we discuss the authors' experiences as NT2 teachers, give tips for teachers working with KlasNL, and discuss the usefulness for students: why do they need to learn certain things?
As a listener, it is not necessary to listen to the podcast in order. Want to know more about a particular topic? Then you can navigate to the corresponding episode.
