In order to successfully integrate in the Netherlands, it is important that one knows about Dutch society. Bagage familiarises students with Dutch society by means of ten themes. The teaching material is geared towards the final attainment levels of the Knowledge of Dutch Society (KNS) component of the Integration Exam.
Bagage uses an active approach to help students learn the material. Each chapter contains two kinds of questions: questions that students can answer on their own and questions they can discuss with their group. They can use these questions, tables, opinions and statements to form their own ideas and compare these ideas with those of others.
This book makes a clear connection between theory and practice. Many of the assignments in Bagage are exercises for the practical exam assessments and students can use a number of them for their portfolios.
The corresponding website contains checklists that students can use to track their progress and worksheets that are needed for the practical assignments. It also contains mock exams that students can take to practice for the Knowledge of Dutch Society (KNS) exam. A teachers manual is available for teachers.
Bagage is suitable for integration courses and is designed for students whose reading level is A1 and higher. It is also a good fit for a learning environment which uses the FC-Sprint2 approach.
