HOW DO I PREPARE FOR THE KNM EXAMINATION?

Courses, lesson material, practice exams and tips

To pass the KNM exam, you need to get acquainted with Dutch society: the customs, norms and values, rules and agencies. You can do this in various ways. You can follow a course or study independently with special KNM course material.

It is a good idea to start your KNM preparation when you have reached language level A1. Combine your training for the exam, for example, with your Dutch classes.

Courses
The preparation for the exam Knowledge of the Dutch Society (Kennis van de Nederlandse Maatschappij) is a permanent part of most integration courses. Integration courses are provided throughout the Netherlands. On the website of Blik Op Werk, there is a list of language schools that have a quality certification. You can get a DUO loan to pay the cost of an integration course. You can only apply for this loan if you choose a course from the list on Blik Op Werk.

Lesson materials
There are various lesson materials that you can use when preparing for the KNM exam. What you choose depends on whether you study independently or in groups, your language level and the education that you have followed.

The book Kom verder! is, for example, very suitable for self-study and is written at A1 level, so that the texts are also understandable for people who are still learning the Dutch language. With Kom verder! you also receive a free practice exam and a convenient online exam training.

When you speak more Dutch, you can also work with Wegwijzer. This method at A2 level is suitable for self-study, but it really excels in a group context.
