Useful information for parents
Choosing a school
Whether your child is attending elementary school for the first time or secondary school: choosing a school can be a daunting task. What do you need to consider? On the website of the Dutch government you can find more information about choosing a primary or secondary school.
The cost of education
In the Netherlands, parents do not pay tuition fees to their children's primary or secondary schools. However, parents are sometimes asked for a contribution, for example for a school trip. Further education after secondary school does cost money. Your child can get study financing for this from the Dutch government. Read more about study financing on the website of the Education Executive Agency (DUO).
Language courses for children
Children who do not yet live in the Netherlands or would like extra Dutch lessons can take an (online) course in Dutch. For example, Dutch for Children is an organization that offers language courses via Skype and focuses mainly on children of expats.
